MAYBE: Evidence is mounting that long-term daily aspirin may help prevent some cancers. but no major American health organizations recommended it solely for that. In one big analysis people ages 50 to 65 who took an aspirin daily had a 18 to 39 percent lower risk for colon cancer after at least 10 years of follow-up, with benefits beginning after 3 years. But regular aspirin use carries some risks. If you already take daily aspirin to prevent heart attack or stroke on your doctor’s advise, cancer prevention may be a bonus. Otherwise to lower colon cancer risk, cut back on red meat and alcohol, maintain a healthy weight, don’t smoke, and get the recommended screenings.
