Lead a healthy lifestyle:
Enjoy fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low fat protein and dairy products
Limit salt to 1,500mg per day
Avoid frozen dinners, fast food/packaged foods, canned foods such as soup, lunch meat and salt you can see: pretzels, crackers
Lose weight if needed to lesson the work load of the heart
Weigh yourself every day. Report a fast weight gain of 2 pounds in one day or 4 pounds in a week to your doctor
Limit alcohol, one drink per day for women and two for men
Walking or biking on most days can help to decrease symptoms. Do not exercise if symptoms have worsened
See your doctor for office visits as ordered.
