Several adjustments can help ensure that the blood pressure reading you get is correct Here’s what to do:
Review your drugs. Some, such as over-the-counter decongestants, can increase blood pressure
Go to the bathroom. A full bladder can raise systolic BP by 10 to 15mmHg.
Get in position. Sit on a chair (not a table), with feet on the floor, legs uncrossed, and your arm supported, with the cuff at heart level.
Put your cuff on your bare arm. Placing the cuff over clothing when measuring blood pressure can boost a systolic reading by as much as 50mmHg.
Remain quiet. Talking can hike your systolic blood pressure reading by 10 to 15mmHg.
