Esophageal cancer is actually two diseases.

Squamous cell carcinoma is more common in smokers and heavy drinkers.

Cinoma is linked to obesity and acid reflex.

On average, only 18 percent of patients are alive five years after diagnosis

You have a higher risk if you:

are over 55

are male

use tobacco

have Barrett’s esophagus (for adenocarcinoma risk)
