Cataract surgery can make driving safer.

But in a study of 559,546 adults, the month right after the operation was associated with higher odds of serious car accidents than later months were.

This may be because of overconfidence, the need to adjust to the way vision changes once cataracts are removed, or because people are still using their old eyeglasses. New ones are usually needed to accommodate the improvement in eyesight.
