Exercise helps to: Control weight-walking 1 mile burns about 100 calories, control blood sugar and prevent or delay type 2 diabetes, build strong bones, muscles, joints, improve strength to prevent falls, lower blood pressure, prevent dementia (memory loss), stop the urge to smoke, lower bad and raise good cholesterol, decrease leg pain due to poor blood flow.
The best benefits are seen with 40-60 minutes of exercise every day. 10,000 steps per day (5 miles) is a goal for good health. Combine house and yard work with walking or other exercise.
