A cochlear implant is a small electronic device that boosts hearing in someone who is deaf or severely hard of hearing. Seniors with the implants reported better quality of life, lower rates of depression and improved thinking skills. The number of patient free of depression was 59% before receiving a cochlear implant and 76% one year after receiving the device.
Study lead by researchers at Assistance Publique-Hopitaux de Paris, France, published in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
