Supplements Are No Substitute for a Tea-Totaler

If you’re a “tea-totaler” should you just pop some supplements instead? Not so fast. Consumer Reports experts advise against using green tea extract powders, the possible benefits do not outweigh the risks. Those risks include dizziness, ringing in the ears, elevated blood pressure and heart rate, liver damage, and possibly death. What’s more, an Agricultural Research Service analysis of 20 green tea supplements found that many contained additives not listed on labels and that some of the substances with the potential for health benefits were degraded.
