Learn about our mission, our team, and how we’re making a difference in the fight against metastatic cancer.
Founded in 2011 by Kathleen McLain, Vessel Work emerged from a powerful collaboration with Public Health Television (PHTV, Inc.), fueled by five National Cancer Institute grants in partnership with the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center at Case Western Reserve University. This groundbreaking work led to the Urban Cancer Project®, a collection of culturally competent videos and television stories revolutionizing cancer communication.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Kathleen McLain, a multiple Emmy and 2024 national Gabriel Award winner for her poignant story “Sister Saving Sister,” Vessel Work is now focusing its efforts with unwavering determination on a cause close to Kathy’s heart: helping researchers defeat cancer. Inspired by the loss of her father to the disease in 2019, Kathy is a driving force within the organization, committed to helping cancer researchers, no matter the obstacles.
Building upon Ms. McLain’s extensive background as a video instructor, her award-winning career in video production for renowned organizations like Cleveland Clinic and ESPN, and her innovative use of technology, including the creation of the online show Barbershop Live and virtual reality training, Vessel Work is poised to leverage its expertise and passion to make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer….a mission that’s sure to get everyone cheering!
