The American Stroke Association (ASA) advises clot-retrieval be done as soon as possible after stroke (and within 6 hours) to minimize later negative effects. But a recent review of five trials says though best results are achieved with 2 hours, it may be safe for up to 7.3 hours.
The American Heart Association and ASA recommend clot-retrieval plus clot-busting drugs for blockages in large brain arteries.
