Bone-strengthening therapy is a standard part of treatment for bone metastases.  The same drugs are also used to treat pain from bone metastases.  The 2 types of these drugs are:  Bisphosphonates (zoledronic acid (Zometa) or pamidronate (Aredia)) RANK ligand (RANKL) inhibitor (denosumab (Xgeva or Prolia))  Use of bisphosphonates or denosumab can:  Lower the risk of fractures related to bone metastases,  Help reduce pain caused by bone metastases,  Reduce the need for radiation therapy and surgery related to bone fractures and bone pain.
